The
objective of AFJROTC Physical Training (PT) program is to enhance cadet
physical fitness, provide
leadership opportunities, build esprit de corps, increase
self-confidence, and develop a healthier cadet life style.
Air Force JROTC PT is not a replacement for the school’s
physical education (PE) curriculum, but cadets must be physically
capable of participating in school PE.
Junior ROTC PT is
not intended to subject cadets to strenuous physical activity which
results in injuries or accidents. All
cadets who are physically able must
participate in the PT program. Dressing out and participating in PT will be considered by
instructors when awarding the Leadership/Participation portion of the
grade for JROTC. Before
participating in PT, cadets must complete the JROTC Physical Health
Screening Questionnaire. The
questionnaire must be signed by the cadet and his/her parents/guardian
and will be kept on file in JROTC.
It is important that cadets inform cadet leaders and instructor of
any illness or physical conditions that would prevent or limit their
participation in PT.
To
the maximum extent possible, the NC-071 PT program will be modeled after
the physical activity and
fitness awards program established by the President’s Council on
Physical Fitness and Sport. This
program tests the cadet’s individual fitness level by using five
specific events. Those
events include curl-ups, shuttle run, endurance run/walk (one mile),
pull-ups, and v-sit reach. Friday
will be the regular PT day and will be used physical conditioning and
sports.
In
addition to doing PT on Fridays, cadets should take a PT test
each semester. The test will
determine the cadet’s physical training level.
Depending on the cadets’ performance, they can receive the
Physical Fitness Ribbon. There
will also be awards given to the top five male/female physically fit
cadets. Cadets must reach
the levels of fitness listed order to qualify for the ribbon.
